GST Council imposed 18% tax on Movie Tickets costing Rs 100 or less. Whereas, 28% tax will be levied on Tickets priced above Rs 100. This move would benefit single screens and low-budget films.
Allu Arjun-starrer 'Duvvada Jagannadham' is the first biggie to face the impact of GST. Exhibitors are in a dilemma whether to hike ticket prices or not just because charging more than Rs 100 per ticket will attract additional 10% of tax.
'DJ' have an advantage here. GST is going to be implemented from July 1st. Which means, The current rates were applicable till June 30th. Tax on 'DJ' Movie Tickets will be as per existing rates for the first 8 Days. For majority of the films, Around 80% of the revenue comes in the first 10 days of its theatrical run. So, There is nothing much 'DJ' producer, distributors and exhibitors need to worry.
