Allu Arjun’s Duvvada Jagannadham aka DJ may not have opened to great reviews but the film is rocking the box-office, leaving critics and trade pundits completely bamboozled.
While a lot of people believed the reviews and slightly mediocre trade talk might affects the film’s box-office prospects, but the numbers have proved everybody wrong. The film opened big on released day with worldwide gross of Rs 33 crore and is expected to mint over Rs 100 crore from its opening weekend. In the US, the film even surpassed Salman Khan’s Tubelight on the first day, much to the surprise of its makers.
In the film, Arjun plays a Brahmin chef, and he apparently took his role so seriously that he gave up eating meat, while shooting the portion where he plays the chef, as he wanted to get under the skin of the character and stay pure. His dedication stunned the entire unit, including his director and co-star Pooja Hegde, who plays his love interest. The film marked the first time collaboration of Arjun and director Harish Shankar, best known for directing Gabbar Singh.
The film registered one of the best openings for Arjun, who continues his winning streak after last year’s blockbuster Sarrainodu. Produced by Dil Raju, the film marks his third hit in a row with Arjun after Arya and Parugu. DJ released in around 3000 screens worldwide and is going strong everywhere.
