It has been ages since we have heard the talk that a particular film has successfully completed screening for 50 consecutive days in a theatre.
Till a decade and a half ago, there used to be heavy competition in the Telugu film industry: if the film of a particular hero runs for 50 days in 400 theatres, another hero used to break this record with his film running for 100 days in more than 100 theatres. It used to big news for fans associations of these heroes.
Those were the days when films like Narasimha Naidu, Indra, Chenna Kesava Reddy, Aadi, Tagore and Simhadri used to run successfully for 50, 100 or even 175 days. But now, it is all history.
One can now come across films hardly running for a couple of weeks, leave alone 50 days, though there were several films which had broken the old records in terms of collections and release in number of theatres.
Even during this dry period for films, Nandamuri Balakrishna still maintained the old records. His recent films like Simha and Legend had run for 100 and even 175 days, even in one or two theatres. This is really a big achievement, since the so-called top heroes are not able to see their films being screened even for a week of two and are satisfied with the collections they get.
Now, it looks like young hero Alliu Arjun is upholding the record of Balayya. His latest blockbuster film Sarrainodu, which could not satisfy film critics on the day one itself, has surprised the pundits by successfully completing 50 days in more than 100 theatres.
This is definitely a great feat, as no other film had run for so many days in so many theatres in the last 10 years. So, with this typical mass masala movie, Arjun has overtaken Balayya on this count!
