Race Gurram Beats Bhoothnath Returns at USA Box Office

Stylish Star Allu Arjun has got huge fan following in America and his previous movies like Julayi and Iddarammayilatho have got fantastic response in the country. But it should be mentioned here that none of his movies has been able to cross Rs 3 crore mark at the USA Box Office in its lifetime. Whereas his latest outing Race Gurram has achieved this rare feet in just three days. It has topped the USA business chart, pushing down Megastar Amitabh Bachchan’s big ticket Bollywood film Bhoothnath Returns.

Race Gurram released in 66+ screens across the country on April 10, one day ahead of its release in India. The movie opened to an overwhelming response on Thursday. A strong positive word of mouth went on multiplying its business on the following days. The film has collected Rs 5.08 crores ($844,101) at the USA Box Office in its four-day-extended weekend. Its breakup is $102,782 on Thu, $205,823 on Fri, $309,731 on Sat and $225,765 on Sun.

The Surender Reddy-directed Race Gurram has overtaken Hindi film Bhoothnath Returns, which has collected Rs 46.31 lakhs ($76,929) from 45 screens at the USA Box Office in the first weekend. In terms of its screen count, its performance in the country is even much better than Mahesh Babu’s 1: Nenokkadine, which has been the highest grosser Telugu movie of 2014 with its collection crossing Rs 5.82 crores ($946,552) from 105 screens at the USA Box Office in its first weekend.

Race Gurram has become biggest opener and highest grosser movie in the opening weekend in America for Allu Arjun and Surender Reddy. On Sunday, Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, “Telugu film #RaceGurram is UNSTOPPABLE in USA. Features at No 12 position in USA Box Office chart this weekend, alongside Hollywood biggies.” On Tuesday, he further wrote, “Telugu film #RaceGurram grossed fab figures in USA. All set to emerge Allu Arjun’s biggest grosser in USA, crossing $ 1 mn in days to come.
