"Race Gurram", starring Allu Arjun and Shruti Haasan, has overtaken Ram Charan's "Yevadu" and has emerged as the biggest earner of 2014 (so far).
The family entertainer minted close to ₹47 crore share in 17 days at the worldwide box office. The film is estimated to have earned around ₹50 lakh share in AP/Nizam areas on Monday (28 April), thus overtaking "Yevadu" total worldwide collections that amount to ₹47.1 crore (share).
"Race Gurram" has emerged as the biggest hit of 2014 till date. The film is likely to continue its good run and enter the elite ₹50-crore club soon. If the Allu Arjun starrer surpasses the ₹50-crore mark, it will be the actor's first film to achieve the feat. The film might even beat Mahesh Babu-Venkatesh's "Seethama Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu" ("SVSC") collections, which stand at ₹51 crore. By surpassing "SVSC" figures, the family entertainer will take the fifth spot in the list of all time top 10 worldwide shares.
"Race Gurram" will have only "Attarintiki Daredi" (₹74.88 crore), "Gabbar Singh" (₹60.55 crore), "Dookudu" (₹56.7 crore) and "Magadheera" (₹73.1 crore) ahead in the list of top 10 shares. It might be difficult for the Allu Arjun starrer to surpass the collections of these films.
Directed by Surender Reddy, "Race Gurram" story revolves around two brothers played by Allu Arjun and Shaam. Shruti Haasan has been paired opposite Allu Arjun in the film, while the other cast members include Brahmanandam, Prakash Raj, Ravi Kishan, Mukesh Rishi and MS Narayana.
The film's music is scored by Thaman, while cinematography has been handled by Manoj Paramahamsa and editing done by Goutham Raju.
The success of "Race Gurram" has proved once again that family entertainers are safe bets in the Telugu film industry. Barring a few films, most of the big hit projects listed in all time top 10 Telugu films deal with family oriented subjects.
