Audio Review : Badrinath - Simply Entertaining & Melodius

Ever since Geetha Arts annnounced Badrenath, a semi-period film with actor Allu Arjun and director V.V. Vinayak, everyone has been expecting another Magadheera. With music director M.M.Keeravani, who also worked for Magadheera, working for this film too, the expectations from the audio are high. Will Badrenath survive the expectations and comparisons with Magadheera, let’s see!

1. Omkareswari
Singers: Shankar Mahadevan, MM Keeravani
Lyrics: Veturi Sundara Ramamurthy

The album kicks off to an energetic start, establishing the rich history and setting the environment of Badrenath right at the beginning. Shankar Mahadevan, along with Keeravani, keeps the tempo of this very well written song by Chandrabose. Keeravani too keeps the song simple with easy beats and his usual violins, except for a small interlude.

2.Ambadari
Singers: Revanth, Shravana Bhargavi
Lyrics: Chandrabose

Ambadari has a very Punjabi feel to it, and hence is obviously entertaining, and youthful. Chandrabose works in tandem with Keervani to create terrific variations with rhyming words, through the end of every stanza. This one is a thoroughly entertaining song, with a faster tempo, with no loud western instruments used.

3.In The Night
Singers: Baba Sehgal, Shravana Bhargavi
Lyrics: Shravana Bhargavi

In The Night is completely in English, rendered by the dynamic Baba Sehgal and effervescent Shravana Bhargavi, who also seems to have contributed thelyrics. Unlike the last two songs which sounded more traditional, this is one is completely western. It doesn’t matter if everyone will understand the lyrics, because the main aim of the song is to get its listeners into the groove and dance. It definitely achieves its aim.

4. Nachchavura
Singers: Sreeram Chandra, Chaitra
Lyrics: M.M. Keeravani & Ananth Sriram

Inspite of its slow start, Nachchavura keeps the pace with the excellent mix of electronic and traditional instruments. Chaitra’s voice is a tease and so is the song, contributed by Ananth Sriram along with M.M. Keeravani. And when Sreeram Chandra croons in high pitch, the number gets even more entertaining.

5.Nath Nath
Singers: Jassie Gift, Sunidhi Chauhan
Lyrics: Chandrabose

Sunidhi Chauhan’s voice has a certain quality, that it even makes a shabbily written song like Nath Nath sound entertaining as well! Keeravani resorts toPunjabi style yet again interlacing it with typical Telugu folkish instruments. On the whole the song is going to be yet another dance number, with enough scope for Allu Arjun to showcase his dancing skills.

6.Chiranjeeva
Singers: Revanth, Shreya Goshal
Lyrics: Chandrabose

Far from the noise of previous song, Chiranjeeva starts off peacefully. Done more like a hip-hop song, this one is easily the best of the lot so far. Revanth’s voice is quite a revelation, while Shreya Goshal’s is as it generally is – sweet.Lyrics again have that unique Chandrabose quality - word plays with similar sounding words, and not necessarily only rhyming ones.

7.Ambadari Remix
Singers: Anuj Gurwara, Geetha Madhuri
Lyrics: Chandrabose

The remix version of Ambadari is very techno in sound, and is a decent experiment by Achu. Interestingly, this one sounds a touch better than normal version, probably because of increased tempo, as Chandrabose’s words sound even more entertaining when they are pronounced together. Anuj Gurwara’s voice adds a touch of mischief too!

8. Vasundhara
Singers: MM Keeravani, Swetha Pandit
Lyrics: Chandrabose

Swetha Pandit’s has a silencing effect, even if she is singing an extremely sensuous composition like Vasudhara. Keeravani showcases his immense experience in keeping the song as silent as possible for the most part of it, even as he uses quite a few instruments. This probably is one of the best works of Chandrabose and it is easily the pick of the album.

9.Badrenath Theme
Singers: Twin Cities Choir
Lyrics: Chaitanya Prasad

The sound and quality Badrenath Theme is amazingly exceptional. Yet all of it is pushed back by the harmonious performance of the singers, who sing a thoroughly well written song with alacrity and glory.

Final Point: The best thing about the audio of Badrenath is that Keeravani doesn’t try to repeat the magic of Magadheera. Instead he keeps it unique, simple and entertaining. Songs likeVasundhara, Chiranjeeva are melodius, while the others fall more into entertainment category. That shouldn’t make the album any less valuable from any other Keeravani’s recent ones. The talented musician has been mixing his songs with successful results like Magadheera, Vedam, Maryada Ramanna etc. Badrenath too is no different. Buy it.
