Now that we are hearing many comparisons between the films Baahubali and Rudhramadevi and few are opposing it as well. Both are period films. Both came from different director and are made in different budget. But one common thing is the performances that we can review on! Basically, Baahubali is an imagination. You dont have any scale, limitations for that but Rudhramadevi is history and the entire story is real. Adding extra elements and any other unnecessary things would spoil the actual story of the film. But the main highlight of both the films are strong characters and the way they are portrayed!
To be frank, Baahubali is a super sensational successful film in all the aspects. It has set up a new formula for promotions as well as to expand the business to the other states. The entire credit for the film’s success was majorly gone to Rajamouli, Story department, Music, BGM, VFX team and cinematography team and to everyone’s surprise people started appreciating actors only after praising the technical team first. Though the actors worked hard by spending lot of time on sets, it is the technical team who took all the pain in completing the film with the best output in time. When it comes to the performances of the film, it is undoubtedly Satya Raj who played Kattappa steal the show. Only after him every other actor is appreciated. In terms of comparison between the lead actors, it is Rana Daggubati who was showered with praises the most when compared with Prabhas. In fact, when we think about Baahubali, the firs person that comes to most of our minds is not Prabhas. Prabhas is the lead actor of the film.
Now coming to the film Rudhramadevi, the film stars Anushkha Shetty, Rana and Allu Arjun in the lead roles. Anushkha who played the title role really deserve the title Maha Nati as said by Dasari Narayana Rao the other day at a press meet. She did all she could do for the film. Rana does not have scope in the character he was offered and it is Allu Arjun undoubtedly who deserves the applauses after Anushkha. There are people who are watching the film only for Allu Arjun and there are also people who are most happy with the role Gona Ganna Reddy and the way it was presented. Allu Arjun did a very great job and it is a tough job to pull the role as the role is not imagination and few people might already have known about the behaviour of the role. No one can imagine it and after watching his performance, an impression that only he can do the role has been drawn. Allu Arjun is a character artist in the film.
Now, comparing these two characters, there is actually a very large scope for Prabhas who played dual roles in Baahubali to dominate everyone in terms of performances but we cant tell the statement whole heartedly that Prabhas rocked the show but when it comes to Allu Arjun he dominated the role Gona Ganna Reddy extremely well that he tried to reach the scale of the title role in terms of performances. It is not that we are comparing the roles or characters but the extent of impact that has been drawn by these two roles on the audiences. For instance, there is one scene in Baahubali where, Prabhas has to motivate all his soldiers during the war sequence and Prabhas tried his best to motivate the soldiers. A similar scene we find in Sye film as well. Rajeev Kanakala motivates his students before the second half of the play begins. The situation is same but we experience goosebumps in Sye but when it comes to Prabhas in Baahubali, the performance looks artificial and the dialogues during the scene are also forced. They dont create any impact except to realize that something must be done to fight! This one scene has a lot of scope for Prabhas to dominate all the other actors but it was not utilized by him.
When it comes to Bunny in Rudhramadevi, almost every scene was his was thoroughly enjoyed by the audiences in the film. This clearly reveals that lead role or a character in the film is not a matter but the way the artist make use of the character he was offered makes the difference!
PS : It is not to hurt any individual opinion but a detailed analysis on what some of the movie lovers feel after watching both the films.
